Convenors

A/Prof Dr. Jason Ong is an academic sexual health specialist and health economist based at Melbourne Sexual Health Centre. His research focuses on economic evaluations and demand creation strategies to improve the uptake of HIV and sexually transmitted infection (STI) testing and management services.

Dr Jillian Lau is an Infectious Diseases physician based in Melbourne, Victoria.
She works clinically at Alfred Health and Monash Health and is a postdoctoral research fellow at The Doherty Institute. Her research focuses on HIV cure therapeutic interventions, and the practice of interrupting antiretroviral therapy in HIV cure trials (known as analytical treatment interruptions).

Zoe Sever

ASHM Health

Registered Nurse with a Master of Science in Medicine (Sexual and Reproductive Health) and First-Class Honours in Nursing Research.

Extensive experience spanning clinical practice, research, and leadership across sexual and reproductive health. Previously served as Clinical and Scientific Advisor for multiple health companies and Research and Partnerships Lead at the Center for Intimacy Justice.

Currently ASHM’s HIV Program Manager, overseeing the HIV Program including team management, budgets, grants, policies, and program deliverables such as the HIV Prescriber Program and various sexual health projects.

David Griffin

Track Co-Chair | Alfred Health

David Griffin is an ID physician and PhD candidate at the Department of Infectious Diseases at Alfred Health. He is involved in the ambulatory and inpatient care of people with HIV.

Mark O’Reilly

Track Co-Chair | East Sydney Doctors

Dr Mark O’Reilly is a Sexual Health Physician, HIV specialist General Practitioner and Director at East Sydney Doctors and Taylor Square Private Clinic. He is a clinical advisor to ASHM and a current member of the the Australian antiretroviral guidelines committee.

Arron Sparkers

Member | Queensland Health

Arron is an experienced Clinical Pharmacist, educator and subject matter expert on the management of complex HIV caseloads and sexual health in the public health space.

Arron provides care and clinical consultation to patients from diverse backgrounds and key priority demographics as an integral member of a multidisciplinary team in outpatient ambulatory care. Arron is a passionate advocate for patient-centred care and inclusivity, with specific focus on optimising long-term health outcomes for PLHIV. 

Dani Collins

Member | Alfred Health

Dani is an endorsed nurse practitioner working for the Victorian HIV Service, Alfred Hospital Melbourne; and Pronto!, Thorne Harbour Health.

Dani has been an executive member of the Australasian Sexual Health and HIV Nursing Association (ASHHNA) since 2017 and represents ASHHNA on various committees. The specialty of HIV intersects Dani’s passion for social justice, infectious diseases and human rights.

Areas of interest include new HIV diagnosis and navigating the pathway into HIV care, complex HIV & psychosocial care and strengthening the HIV workforce through developing and implementing systems to improve and expand upon HIV care provision in both metropolitan and rural areas.

Josh Borja

Member | ASHM Health

Josh Borja works at ASHM Health, supporting the delivery of the HIV s100 Prescriber Course and its associated ongoing education.

His work focuses on high-quality training, accreditation, and continuous professional development, helping prescribers build confidence, maintain currency, and strengthen HIV care across Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand.

Dr Massimo Giola

Member | Health Nz - Te Whatu Ora

Dr Massimo Giola obtained his medical degree in 1991 at the University of Pavia (Italy) and specialised in Infectious Diseases in 1996 (Italy).

He has a PhD in Clinical and Experimental Pharmacology.  He moved to NZ in 2009 and worked as a general/ID physician in Invercargill until November 2010, then in Tauranga.

He was accepted for the Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians in December 2012 and completed further specialty training in Sexual Health Medicine in Auckland in 2013-2015, obtaining the Fellowship of the Australasian Chapter of Sexual Health Medicine. He has completed in November 2023 a Master in Psychosexology and is now a certified Medical Sexology Consultant. He is the Oceania Vice-Chair of IUSTI – Asia Pacific.

Mina John

Member | Royal Perth Hospital

Mina John is a Clinical Immunologist and Immunopathologist with the Department of Immunology at Royal Perth Hospital, which provides a large ambulatory, inpatient and community outreach HIV care service for WA.

She also supervises the HIV diagnostics and drug resistance laboratory for PathWest and has research appointments with Murdoch University and the University of WA. Her main research interests are HIV immunology and therapeutics.

Anthony K J Smith

Anthony K J Smith (he/him) is a Research Fellow at the Centre for Social Research in Health. He is a qualitative health researcher and sociologist in HIV, sexual health, and LGBTQ+ health.

Nikki Sullivan

Track Co-Chair | Thorne Harbour Health

Dr Nikki Sullivan is Project Development Manager, Thorne Harbour Health (SA). She previously worked in the higher education sector and is Adjunct Associate Professor in the School of Humanities at the University of Adelaide. Nikki has published widely on LGBTIQ+ bodies, histories and rights.

Beau Newham

Member | NAPWHA

Beau Newham is a dedicated HIV-positive community leader with extensive contributions to HIV advocacy in Australia and Southeast Asia.

Beau is currently the HIV Testing Lead at NAPWHA (National Association of People with HIV Australia) where he led the development and currently manages ‘HIVtest.au’, the first national HIV self-testing service in Australia for. He has held roles at Living Positive Victoria and ASHM, where he has focused on supporting underrepresented populations with HIV.

Beau’s work extends internationally, with previous roles in HIV-focused organisations in Southeast Asia including Yayasan Gaya Dewata (Indonesia) and PT Foundation (Malaysia). He is also the co-founder of the Queer Indonesia Archive, the largest LGBTIQ+ community archive in South-East Asia.

Ben Riley

Benjamin Riley is a researcher in Gender and Cultural Studies at the University of Sydney, interested in gay men and the legacy of AIDS. Benjamin is the Policy and Public Affairs Manager at ASHM, leading the organisation’s policy advocacy and public engagement. He is also a widely published freelance journalist.

Brooke Maria Hollingshed

Member | University of Auckland / Positive Women Inc/ Toitū te Ao.

Brooke is a Research Fellow at the Gay Men’s Sexual Health research group at the University of Auckland, and also works at Positive Women Inc. and Toitū te Ao doing policy and research work.

She has a PhD on HIV in the Philippines through the Australian Research Centre on Sex, Health and Society at La Trobe University, and is passionate about rights-based advocacy, policy change and global health.

Isabel Mudford

Member | ARCSHS, La Trobe University

Isabel is a postdoctoral research officer at the Australian Research Centre in Sex, Health and Society at La Trobe University. She is exploring the social and political aspects of the operationalisation of global HIV elimination goals.

She completed her PhD in 2025 at the Australian National University’s School of Sociology. 

Her thesis examined the emergence of the category of LGBT Health and its relationship to notions of community and citizenship constituted through the AIDS response.

Olivia Hollingdrake

Curtis is a Research Associate at the Kirby Institute who focuses on HIV prevention among gay and bisexual men

Tiffany Phillips

Track Co-Chair | Melbourne Sexual Health Centre

Dr Phillips is a research fellow at Melbourne Sexual Health Centre and Monash University with a background in genetics. Her current research focuses on STI epidemiology and prevention, with a particular interest in health promotion. 

Daniel Vujcich

Member | WAAC

Dr Daniel Vujcich has a decade of experience working in the sexual health sector, including as Senior Policy Officer in the Communicable Disease Directorate, state coordinator of peer-led programs at the Aboriginal Health Council of Western Australia, and as Manager of the Sexual Health and Blood-borne Virus Applied Research and Evaluation Network. 

Marti Kaiser

Member | Alfred Health

Marti is a Registered Nurse with a Masters of Public Health specialising in sexual health.

Marti is a clinical research nurse and has worked on studies in bacterial vaginosis, mycoplasma genitalium, rectal chlamydia, and is currently coordinating HIV cure research through Alfred Health in collaboration with the Peter Doherty Institute. Marti has been a committee member of the Australasian Sexual Health and HIV Nurses Association since 2024.

Skye O’Halloran

Member | ASHM Health

Skye O’Halloran is a Senior Project Officer at ASHM. With a bachelor’s degree in international studies, Skye has a range of experience in the non-profit sector, focusing on community development and capacity building practices that centres those most impacted.

At ASHM Skye works predominately in hepatitis B education and projects for primary healthcare workforce.

Tony Sriamporn

Member | University of Auckland

Koson Tony Sriamporn is a research fellow at the School of Population Health (University of Auckland) and an exec board member of the New Zealand Sexual Health Society. 

He is a health psychologist researcher interested in blood donation, HIV and STI prevention practices, quantitative research methodology, and psychometric development.

Warittha Tieosapjaroen

Member | Melbourne Sexual Health Centre, Alfred Health

Warittha is a postdoctoral research fellow at the Melbourne Sexual Health Centre, Monash University, and a visiting research fellow at the Kirby Institute. 

Her research focuses on people-centred strategies to improve access to HIV prevention methods among underserved populations. As the project manager of the HOPE Network, she collaborates with regional leaders across East and Southeast Asia to advance HIV prevention and elimination efforts.

Anna Hearps

Track Chair | Burnet Institute

Dr Hearps is Co-Director of the Disease Elimination Program and Head of the Infection, Inflammation and Innate Immunity laboratory the Burnet Institute.

Her research focuses on the pathogenesis and clinical manifestations of HIV, with a particular focus on innate immune cells, and implications for chronic diseases including cardiovascular disease.

Najla Nasr

Member | Westmead Institute for Medical Research, University of Sydney

Najla Nasr completed her PhD at the University of Sydney focusing on HIV pathogenesis. She is currently an Associate Professor in the School of Medical Sciences at the University of Sydney and a Group Leader at the Westmead Institute for Medical Research. 

Her research focuses on HIV prevention and cure strategies.

Her seminal highly cited work has focussed on how HIV manipulates innate immunity to evade detection and facilitate transmission by inhibiting the Type I interferon system- the body’s early warning system against invading viral pathogens. 

Sushama Telwatte

Member | University of Melbourne

Dr. Sushama Telwatte is a molecular virologist, based at the Doherty Institute (University of Melbourne), whose research focuses on HIV latency and tissue reservoirs.

She develops single-cell and bulk transcriptomic approaches to study infected cells under ART, with a strong interest in applying innovative technologies to uncover viral persistence mechanisms.

Thomas Angelovich

Member | RMIT University

Dr Angelovich is a Senior Lecturer and Deputy Head, Neuroinfections Laboratory at RMIT University, Melbourne. 

His research investigates the mechanisms driving inflammatory comorbidities such as cognitive and cardiovascular diseases which affect people living with HIV. Dr Angelovich also has a strong interest in understanding the effects of HIV on immunological ageing.
