The HIV Disengagement from Care Roundtable will bring together clinical, community, research, policy and service perspectives to identify practical priorities for strengthening engagement in HIV care across Australia. Informed by a rapid scoping review and a national survey of frontline practitioners and services, participants will consider how disengagement should be defined and identified, how it can be prevented, and how people can be supported to return to and remain engaged in care. The Roundtable will help shape a proposed Australian working definition and priority actions for future national consideration.

For the first time, transgender and gender diverse people are recognised as a ‘priority population’ in Australia’s national strategies for HIV and STIs. Data are needed to guide this new strategic era and monitor progress in population health.
The Australian Trans & Gender Diverse Sexual Health Survey is our country’s only national surveillance initiative for these populations. Launched in 2018 and repeated in 2025, with over 6,000 participants it is one of Australia’s largest studies of transgender and gender diverse people. The rich study dataset spanning every Australian state and territory provides valuable longitudinal insights on holistic aspects of sexual health and well-being.
This session will release headline findings from the study’s most recent wave of data collection, investigating changes in key sexual health outcomes from 2018 to 2025. Study results will be contextualised by discussion with a panel of expertsrepresenting Australia’s transgender and gender diverse communities, with an aim of looking forward to future needs and opportunities.

HIV Unwrapped helps explore the intersection between HIV science, innovation and visual artistry – envisioning new creative responses to HIV whilst paying tribute to how artistic expression has helped shape the medical, cultural and political response to HIV.
